Embrace Fun

An Artful Life

Wichita’s arts and culture scene doesn’t just exist, it’s embraced, lived and celebrated across a wide spectrum of residents. It’s not unusual to find bankers next to tattoo artists at the same event, show, museum or concert. Wichita’s arts scene is one of the engines of the city’s urban redevelopment and continues to rev the community’s originality vibe. From visual arts to a stellar performing arts scene, Wichita is a place for you to embrace fun endlessly.

Local art

Located just east of downtown, the Douglas Design District contains more than 60 murals that bring color and attention to the area. You'll find an abundance of sculptures by local artists throughout the urban core, too.

Gallery Alley

Downtown Wichita features Gallery Alley, an underutilized brick alleyway transformed into an art gallery featuring local artists during First Friday and live acoustic music performances throughout the summer.

First Friday

First Fridays are not-to-miss nights out with gallery open houses, live music and all things local art in a variety of forms. Support local arts and purchase unique art while exploring the city during this free gallery crawl.

Music Theatre

Every summer Music Theatre Wichita presents five Broadway-caliber musicals casted using a unique mixture of top-flight professionals from Broadway and Hollywood working hand-in-hand with talented Midwesterners and young adults.

With over 75 years in existence, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra presents eight classic concert Masterworks series, as well as modern Pops concerts, Family Concerts and free, citywide presentations. They even play to Star Wars and the Wizard of Oz!

Experience an inspirational production during a fully-staged opera or gala concert during the Wichita Grand Opera season, or enjoy Opera on the Lake at Bradley Fair in May, a free event for the entire community and family to enjoy.
