College Hill Heaven: A Day in the Life

This district is iconic: brick-paved streets lined with lofty trees and homes ranging from mansion-like and historic to cottage-esque and modern. Not only are its houses remarkable, residents relish the lifestyle and amenities the neighborhood offers, too. Discover below a #RelentlesslyOriginal day in the life of a College Hill resident.

Mornings are one of the best parts about living in College Hill. Neighbors casually step out for a walk, run or bike ride to embrace the day. Those from surrounding areas make a deliberate detour during their exercise routines to admire a visual gallery of diverse homes and sights.

Speaking of mornings, when the delightful smell of bacon and eggs drifts through the air, it could be from one of several nearby breakfast eateries. Breakfast and lunch joint Dempsey’s Biscuit Co. created 11 original ways to serve its delicious biscuits, including six Wichita-themed sandwiches. Wine Dive changes the brunch game, too, with an extensive bloody mary bar and decadent menu. It’s located near Lincoln Heights Village, Wichita’s first shopping center.

As the morning fades, the district’s boutiques are opening their doors. Clifton Collective, Aspen Traders and Oaklyn Reece Boutique each specialize in its own one-of-a-kind goods, so you’ll discover something new with each visit. The neighborhood has plenty of space to roam, too – College Hill Park boasts 22 acres of greenery and activities for both two- and four-legged friends.

Have lunch at Dempsey’s Burger Pub, Ziggy’s Pizza or College Hill Deli, all with stellar outdoor areas and tasty food to match. College Hill Deli’s authentic Mediterranean fare and colorful Wichita-themed mural make it a go-to for residents and visitors alike. All three eateries are near Clifton Square, a housing development-turned-shopping center. Clifton Square’s unconventional setting sparks innovation in each of its businesses, including Flavors Coffee and Ice Cream Bar. Its affogato shake was invented in-house, combining smooth ice cream with the caffeine kick of espresso.

The district has its own entertainment venues, too. The Wichita Community Theatre and the Crown Uptown Theatre provide stellar plays and musicals in historic venues, making each experience unforgettable and leaving you eager to return.

College Hill life is unparalleled. There are so many amenities within a square mile, and it’s only a glimpse of #RelentlesslyOriginal Wichita. Enjoy a high quality of life without a high cost of living – and the urban core only a five-minute bike away.

MY SUMMER IN WICHITA: A KOCH INTERN EXPERIENCE

I’m convinced that the people who claim “there’s nothing to do in Wichita” have never actually been. I moved to Wichita for a summer internship with Koch Industries. While I was busy innovating and creating value during the day as a business systems analyst intern, my evenings were spent with fellow interns exploring the city.
